Data Rich, Information Poor:
As we move to discuss the methods and reasoning behind the ways in which we approach assessment, we should all remember:
MANY COUNTIES USE DATA TO DRIVE INSTRUCTION
but it's combersome, inauthentic, inneffective and at the worst..Hurtful.

Hello Julianne,
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly agree. So much time, money and effort is spent on research, yet even when it validates that our current practices are faulty, we still fail to change them. Why is this? What can we do to change it?
I often speak to teachers who fight year after year for students who do well in class, has shown evidence that they have learned the material, yet fail the end of year test and are held back contingent upon passing it the next term.
I read an interesting article in Education Week about DRIP that revealed some advancement and changes being made about assessments based on recent data. http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2010/05/06/31slotnik.h29.html?qs=data+rich+but+information+poor
